City of Thieves by David Benioff

In an adventure story set during the siege of Leningrad, Lev, a Jewish virgin too young for the army, and a charismatic infantryman Kolya, embark on an impossible task to save their lives. They encounter cannibals, prostitutes, starving children, nightmarish war zones and demonic Nazi chess players on their journey.

Interesting story. Still trying to figure out if it's really based on a true story or not. LOTS of language though.
