The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister

On Monday evenings, Lillian, a chef and restaurant owner, holds a cooking class for eight students. As they students learn to create delicious concoctions, their life stories unfold, and their experiences and the lessons they learn extend beyond cooking.

I loved this book. It was sweet without being sappy. Food was a central cast member but the story was about how food acts as a metaphor for different fears and needs and desires in our lives. A truly delightful and delicious way to pass a few hours.
